Abstract:
A large concrete slab for a mass transit railway station in Hong Kong was cast with a special concrete containing pulverized fly ash, river sand, and a second-generation superplasticizer. This mix broke away from what had been the norm in Hong Kong for generations: ordinary portland cement and granite aggregate. Since this project was completed, there has been a renaissance in mix proportioning in Hong Kong for many concrete applications, particularly in the use of fly ash.
