Abstract:
Paper discusses the bond strength between a high-performance concrete (HPC) with a 28-day strength of 95 MPa and reinforcing steels. This was measured in a series of beam tests, in which the type of concrete (HPC and ordinary concrete), reinforcement diameter (between 10 and 25 mm), and reinforcement surface condition (smooth and deformed) were varied. The concrete/reinforcement bond strength increases on the whole with the tensile strength of the concrete, and at a higher rate with smaller reinforcement (more marked scale effect). It would be interesting to check the consequences of this improvement in bond strength in reinforced concrete structures.
