Abstract:
F/A-18 jet aircraft cause deterioration of concrete parking aprons from exposure to aircraft auxiliary power unit exhaust. Damage appears as surface scaling and results in debris that can harm the aircraft turbines. Analytical and experimental investigations were performed to pursue the development of candidate paving systems to resist these effects. For new construction, magnesium ammonium phosphate cement with expanded shale aggregate, and portland cement with expanded shale aggregate were found to be the best choices.
