Abstract:
Mix proportions for Controlled Low Strength Material (CLSM) were developed that incorporate pond ashes (coal ash collected in ponds) from the A-Area, F-Area, and D-Area Ash Basins at the Savannah River Site, in Aiken, S. C. Laboratory and field test results indicate the three pond ashes can be incorporated into CLSM which meets all of the design specifications for the Savannah River Site. A mix proportion containing D-Area ash was formulated for use as structural fill. A CLSM mix was formulated for common fill applications using the A- and F-Area ashes, which were less homogenous than the D-Area ash and contain a larger amount of clinker and bottom ash.
