Abstract:
The Callaway Nuclear Power Plant, Unit One, in Fulton, Missouri, began construction in 1975 with a proposed concrete use of 250,000 yd3 (191,000 m3). The specification called for 12 individual concrete mixtures ranging in strength from 2000 psi (14 MPa) to 6000 psi (41 MPa). A project that would last at least six years and have such a diverse set of mixtures presented a real problem in timely and ongoing evaluation fo concrete quality. This article discusses one of the twelve mixes from proportioning through ongoing evaluation.
