Abstract:
The fire endurance of a floor, roof, wall, beam, or column is determined from results of standard (ASTM E119) fire tests. Standard fire tests have served the public and industry well but they have shortcomings and are expensive. Analytical and experimental research has led to the development of analytic methods for determining the fire endurance to concrete structures. Basic concepts of these methods, called rational design procedures, are discussed. An example to problem is used to illustrate the procedure.
