Abstract:
Two ACI members, James K. Wight of the University of Michigan and William Halczak of the Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District, participated in a U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) sponsored trip to the State of Gujarat, India, to offer advice on recovery efforts following the devastating earthquake of January 26, 2001. Wight acted as a consultant for repair and seismic rehabilitation of reinforced concrete and masonry structures, while Halczak served as a consultant for reuse and recycling of the concrete and masonry rubble from the collapsed and heavily damaged buildings.
