Abstract:
Impact damage to prestressed concrete bridge girders can have serious consequences. Damage to these girders may be two-fold, including damage to both the concrete and the reinforcement. A federal program evaluates bridge damage due to impact, and presents testing, repair, maintenance and long-term monitoring of bridges. A survey of the impact damage in prestressed bridge girders and repair techniques used throughout the United States and Canada is presented. Types of repairs, aesthetics, durability, and structural integrity are evaluated.
