Abstract:
Based on preliminary investigations on measuring workability of concrete during mixing, a mechanism, called a consistency indicator, was designed and operated in conjunction with regular paving operations todetermine whether such an apparatus would have practical application. The consistency meter was designed to indicate the relative pressures exerted on a bar by the concrete as it was being mixed in the mixer drum. An oil gage, re gave an index of istering pressures from 0 to 30 lb, the pressure on the bar. The con clusions reached were that the indicator would provide a means of securing tester uniformity as to workability an equality in concrete.
