Abstract:
This treatise is limited to objects and structures built of concrete that are primarily experienced, although not exclusively, in the public domain and deal with both subjective and objective issues in terms of human senses, emotion, knowledge, and tradition. An historic perspective and an aesthetic vocabulary are followed by guidelines (strictly for the observer of concrete) that one can use as a framework for evaluation. They are referred to as guidelines because it is extremely difficult to establish hard and fast rules all can agree on that apply equally to all forms of concrete architecture, structures, bridges, sculpture, and flatwork.
