Description
This course is jointly sponsored by NEx: An ACI Center of Excellence for Nonmetallic Building Materials and the American Concrete Institute (ACI).
This course presents information on designing GFRP-reinforced concrete members to resist shear and torsion per ACI 440.11-22. Concepts including shear resistance provided by concrete, transverse reinforcement contributions, maximum transverse reinforcement spacing, and reinforcement limits for shear and torsion will be discussed. Then, information on detailing GFRP reinforced concrete will be presented. This information will include development length, splices, and detailing requirements for beams. Concepts will be applied using an example for both torsion and detailing.
Table of Contents
Learning Objectives:
1. Determine required shear and torsion reinforcement for concrete reinforced with GFRP bars per ACI 440.11-22.
2. Describe similarities and differences between shear and torsion design provisions for concrete reinforced with GFRP bars presented in ACI 440.11-22 and provisions presented for steel-reinforced concrete in ACI 318-19.
3. Calculate the development length of straight and hooked GFRP reinforcement per ACI 440.11-22.
4. Determine GFRP bar cut-off locations per ACI 440.11-22.
