Notes/Preview
The contents of this course include three recorded presentations from the ACI 2017 Spring Convention:
• Cyclic and Monotonic Load Tests for Strength Evaluation of Prestressed Concrete Beams by Mohamed ElBatanouny, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc.; Antonio Nanni, University of Miami; and Paul H. Ziehl and Fabio Matta, University of South Carolina
• Monotonic and Cyclic Load Tests: A Case for Each by Aaron K. Larosche, Pivot Engineers; and Michael E. Ahern, Pivot Engineers
• Reliability Assessment of ACI Test Load Magnitudes for Concrete Buildings by Jeffrey West, University of Waterloo; Mahesh Pandey, University
INSTRUCTIONS: Study the materials included in this module. Then, complete and pass the corresponding 10-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.1 CEU (equivalent to 1.0 PDH). This online course is not approved for credit with the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB).
Continuing Education Credit: 0.1 CEU (1 PDH)

Access Period: 30 days
Description
The objective of this course is to present recent developments in load testing of existing concrete structures, with an emphasis on differences and similarities between monotonic and cyclic load testing. The presentations will highlight interesting load testing case studies, review lessons learned during testing, review the process of designing load tests, and provide information regarding best practices when load testing.

Learning Objectives
1. Describe how to administer the monotonic load test to evaluate strength of existing concrete structures.
2. Explain how to perform cyclic load test to evaluate strength of existing concrete structures.
3. Describe how to apply the acceptance criteria to monotonic load test and cyclic load tests to assess existing concrete structures.
4. Assess capacities of deteriorated concrete structures understanding reliability and variability of applied design loads and as-built member properties.
