Q. What are some other admixtures? A. There are other admixtures to enhance concrete properties and improve the performance of structures (ACI 212.3R). For example, corrosion-reducing admixtures are available to protect the reinforcing steel from corrosion (ACI 212.3R, 222R, 224.1R). Shrinkage-reducing admixtures reduce drying shrinkage and minimize cracking. Other specialized admixtures include: gas-forming admixtures; grouting admixtures; expansion- producing admixtures; bonding admixtures; pumping aids; coloring admixtures; flocculating admixtures; fungicidal, germicidal, and insecticidal admixtures; damp-proofing admixtures; permeability-reducing admixtures; anti-washout admixtures; and chemical admixtures to reduce expansion due to alkali-silica reaction.
