Representatives from International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures (RILEM), recently visited ACI Headquarters to find out more about ACI activities, and opportunities for closer cooperation. Pascale Ducornet, General Secretary, and Anne Griffoin, Communications Advisor, toured ACI headquarters, and met with staff to discuss topics such as membership, marketing, chapter activities, and professional development activities. Prior to visiting ACI, the group attended The Concrete Convention and Exposition, in Detroit, MI, USA, along with Dr. Johan Vynck, RILEM President. Vynck was a speaker at the convention’s International Forum. RILEM, in addition to exhibiting at the ACI Convention, were involved in two sessions at the convention: “European Specifications for SCC and Review of the Most Recent RILEM Performance Specifications Document,” and “RILEM Session: Gustavo Colonnetti Lectures.” The 2017 awardees were Gaurav Sant for his paper, “Silicate Dissolution in Cementitious Environments: The Origin of Rate Controls and Their Implications on Chemical Reactivity and Durability,” and Enrico Sassoni, for his paper “Phosphate-Based Treatments for Conservation of Stone.” Enrico Sassoni with RILEM session moderator, Nicolas Roussel Gaurav Sant with RILEM session moderator, Nicolas Roussel The Gustavo Colonnetti Medal, established in 2016, is given in recognition of a researcher of less than 35 years for outstanding scientific contribution to the field of construction materials and structures. RILEM—an ACI International Partner— was founded in June 1947, and its mission is to advance scientific knowledge related to construction materials, systems and structures and to encourage transfer and application of this knowledge world-wide. An International Partner is a concrete-related association committed to cooperation, coordination, and collaboration with other concrete-related societies in an effort to develop a worldwide unified concrete community of equal partners.
