A panel of young professionals from industry and academia shared their insight during the session, What I Wish I Knew: Career Paths in the Concrete Industry, on Monday, October 15, 2018 during The Concrete Convention and Exposition, in Las Vegas, NV, USA. Sponsored by ACI Young Professional Activities Committee, the session targeted undergraduate students and graduate students in the beginning stages of exploring the concrete industry. The panelists were asked to speak on topics such as potential career paths available after completing a degree in the civil engineering or construction engineering fields; the impact of ACI and its committees in their career path; and challenges within the industry. Attendees were able to ask the panelists questions at the end of the meeting. Entering the Construction Industry Presented By: Andres Matos Flood Testing Laboratories Inc Entering the Consulting Industry Presented By: Mohamed ElBatanouny Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates The ACI Young Professionals Committee meets regularly during the ACI Convention and hosts the Young Professional Networking Reception. The Student and Young Professional Activities Committee (SYPAC) is working towards increasing young professional involvement in ACI through programs such as the Emerging Leaders Alliance and the Free Convention Registration Contest organized by the Women in ACI. The next session will take place in Fall 2019 in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Young professionals interested in becoming a speaker or panelist for a SYPAC related session should visit the committee homepage and contact the committee chair.
